The Sunday Lunch Bunch Group started in 1913 when it was realized that there are missions who serve food during the week but not on weekends. The Sunday Lunch Bunch was formed to fill this need.
We at St. Mary Magdalene have been preparing sandwiches for more than 20 years. Our turn comes up three times a year, depending on the schedule. We meet at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday of our assigned weekend for about 45 minutes to one hour in Flanagan Hall. Usually, 10 to 12 volunteers show up for the time needed. The dates for 2016 are July 10th, October 9th, and February 5th {2017} . This is a wonderful way to meet people in our Parish.
One volunteer will then take the sandwiches to the Volunteers of America store at 28th and Lawrence Street for distribution on Sunday.
If you can not make it to help prepare, many people also prepare lunch bags and bring them to the mass Saturday night or before 9:00 a.m. on the Sunday of distribution. Lunches should include two sandwiches, cookies, apple or fruit, or candy bar. Pack what you would like to eat!
We hope you will find time to help us. This is a great way to show children how by serving others, we help ourselves. Jesus said we are to help the least of our brothers and sisters. So, we ask you to follow in His footsteps with us.
